Mechscape is a major upcoming futuristic MMORPG being created by Jagex Ltd., currently scheduled to be released in March of 2009.
The first official mention of Mechscape by Jagex was at E3 on July 15, 2008, where CEO Geoff Iddison and "Head of Mechscape" Henrique Olifiers represented the company. The game itself, however, was being planned as far back as December, 2003.
Through an intervew released shortly after E3, we found that, like Runescape, Mechscape will also be browser-based and created in Java. Jagex also stated in the interview that the game will be several steps ahead of Runescape technologically [graphics-wise?], and will be geared toward an older and more mature age group than Runescape is.
Mechscape currently has its own development team of more than a dozen people, and we can expect both Mechscape and Runescape to continue being supported and updated after Mechscape is released.
